Past President Brown

Past President:

Dr. Keila Brown

Dr. Keila Brown

Immediate Past President: 2020-2024

Chapter of Initiation: Gamma Psi, Tougaloo College

Accomplishments: Commencing her tenure as president during a global pandemic, Dr. Brown guided the chapter through those uncertain times with fortitude and resilience. Chapter meetings, programs and activities were held virtually, including the chapter’s first virtual fundraiser, “A Weekend of Giving”, in conjunction with Uplift Incorporated. After a year of navigating in a virtual environment, the chapter implemented evidence-based guidelines to safely return to a hybrid meeting format in which meetings rotated between in-person and virtual.  Simultaneously, Soror Brown expertly led the chapter as it became heavily engaged in providing vaccine education surrounding COVID-19 and exploring ways to decrease the transmission of the virus among chapter members and the community.

In efforts to conserve funds, reduce chapter usage of paper, and reduce the spread of COVID-19, chapter meeting minutes and financial documents were uploaded to the website for review prior to chapter meeting. A merchant policy was also developed, leading to the implementation of the chapter’s PayPal account for online payment of dues and assessments.

The chapter expanded its community partnerships to provide service activities in each of the areas serviced within Madison County and to increase scholarship funds.  During Soror Brown’s tenure, MCAC awarded over $150,000 in scholarships to high school seniors in Madison County and the seven Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) within the state of Mississippi.

During 2020 and 2021, the chapter was recognized as a Red Ribbon Chapter by the Southern Region and received the Highest of Five in Educational Development at the 2024 Mississippi State Cluster. Also, during this cluster, MCAC was recognized for contributing the most money towards the cluster service project.

In 2023, the chapter served as the host chapter for both the Mississippi State Cluster (first time since the chapter’s inception) and the 2024 Delta Days at the State Capitol.

Soror Brown led the chapter through the Spring 2024 membership intake in which 76 initiates ("Torches of Tenacity") were welcomed to MCAC. This was the second line for the chapter following the inaugural line in 2017.

Previous MCAC positions held by Soror Brown include Second Vice President, Recording Secretary, and committee chair of multiple committees. On the regional level, she recently served on the decorations committee for the 59th Regional Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
